N00B question Dealer said an unsupported phone may destroy the ECU

While back I took my car to the dealer for an iDrive issue. On a separate note, I told him that my bluetooth wasn't ending the call on the car eventhough the call was ended on the phone (the call timer on the car kept going eventhough I'd already ended the call). He said that pairing a phone that is not supported by BMW may be bad for the ECU. Is that true? From the threads that I've read on this forum, sounds like a lot of us don't have BMW supported phones but still use the iDrive bluetooth. I'm using a Blackberry Tour BTW.
TIA for any insight. I'd really like to use the bluetooth.
