wow I like how you think, B

BTW is there a software I can load on my regular laptop to be able to "hack" into my car?

I really wish I could just update the car for a few things - like DRLs and MP3 capability, too...

So basically, for the same money a dealer would charge me to update my software, I can get this and never have to pay the dealer for updates? where do I get updates s/w from though?

Sorry if I'm acting a little "noob" with all these questions - I've been looking for something like this for a WHILE!

Thanks a LOT, BLooD!

So for every successive software update for the car, you have to update your laptop's software - am I understanding you correctly?

that's how it seams to me as well, if i can do it i will build a progman v32 and DIS v57 machine, need to find out about the OBD 2 cable and interface for the laptop first,
plus whether i need a IBM T30 or any laptop., if i do it it will not happen over night, fighting the wife for money and im only an average earner lol

Heh, I got my already for over one year :)

When I get back I write how to install and where you can find DIS for free.

All you need is :

1. Laptop best with rs232 port
2.Obd2 cabel ----> rs232 or for USB (with these are some problems to work)
3.Windows :)
4.VMvare - program for making virtual computers on your laptop is needed to mkae one with unix OS and on this machine you will install DIS Gt1 full original BMW software for all models

There is also easiest way, just to install INPA - BMW software what they use on manufacture - installed on Windows.

At end of the week I past all links for neccesary software :)

Maybe I can help fund you the cables/leads and other bits, because of the distance I sadly cannot help you with the laptop tho :(
