Hi all,

I got my 2007 550i jet black detailed about 2 weeks ago. The primary reason for detailing it was to get the swirl marks out that I see in the sunlight. They washed, clayed, polished, waxed and got lots of swirl marks out but some still remain. I'm not sure if they did a sloppy job, but in any case they are willing to polish again to try to get all of them out. They mentioned that this time that would have to use a compound during the polish and said that this compound may thin the clearcoat.

Should I have this done? Is this a normal procedure and what compounds are supposed to do? What are the risks?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jet black is hard to get a full correction (I have a Jetblack).
Yes, compounding will eat ur clearcoat more than regular polishing. It really depends on how's the current paint condition of your car. Do they use a paint meter to measure your paint thickness before detailing? I'm guessing if they took care of most of the swirls in the first round, you don't really need to compound in the 2nd round. Unless the swirls are so deep and almost scratch like, then you probably need a compound. (But if its that deep, I won't even try getting rid of those).

IMO, since its a jetblack, I wont go for a 100% perfection in one shot. A jetblack will require more polishes/details in the years to come so you might as well save some clearcoat for the next detail/polish.

My 2 cents. Good luck
