Window Mouldings Any products to preserve window mouldings?

Living here in SoCal is hell on the mouldings surrounding the windshield and rear windows, does anyone know of any products to preserve them? Someone told me to try WD40 but that was only temporary.

Whatever you use do not use mother back to black! This stuff does not break down as I learnt. It smears and smears like oil and ruins your glass. I used industrial strength airplane glass cleaner to take this shit off and I was still having to go over and over in one spot for 5 min. To remove eveyhting took me 1h
