out with old, in with the new?

i'm at the local grocery store and my baby gets backed into (2008 535i -- sapphire black). although it was very low speed (i was in the car at the time), the rear bumper has a major 10" dimple in it. the insurance company came by and said it'd cost $1100 for a new rear bumper, paint, removal & reinstallation.

now in addition to that, my front bumper has a curb scrape underneath on the lower right (ok, so its kinda hard to see -- i notice it!), and i'm thinking maybe i ought to look into getting both front and rear fixed...

so i head to the body/paint shop my local bmw dealer recommends, and we start talking options (everything includes removal and installation):
1) replace/paint rear, repair/repaint front: $1100 for rear, $700 for front (complete strip & repair to front)
2) replace/paint rear, replace/paint front: $1100 for rear, $1100 for front
3) i buy new front/rear bumpers + sideskirts and they paint: cost of parts, plus $1500.

i looked into the parts cost of number 3... i'm not sure whose i should get (e.g. bmw m-tech, 3rd party) -- the price differences are huge, and i'm not sure about fitment.

so... what do you think i should do? for whatever option you recommend, are the prices above too steep?

sorry for being a little long-winded, and thanks to anyone who replies!!!

Check out my KNOB!

I've wanted the SMG knob for a while, but always seemed to missed the used ones, and the price for a new one and the necessary kit, was just too much.

So I ended up with this:

I really like the black leather and touch of brushed aluminum. Matches well with the interior.

Man my car is dusty!

Maybe in the future I'll get the SMG knob if I find one cheap, but for $80 this is a lot better then my beat up OEM one.

Carbon Fiber Engine cover and painted Valve covers

Finally got around to painting my valve covers this weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped in guiding me how to remove the covers. Turned out to be very easy, but as a novice I try and be sure I have somewhat of a clue what I'm doing before I start tearing things apart.

Well here are the pics, I think the covers turned out great, really love the contrast with the black and silver.

I masked off BMW and then used a High Temp. Satin Black spray paint

I had purchased a SEIBON Carbon Fiber Engine Cover from trader-nas a few weeks back. It looks so much better with the black valve covers compared to the stock grey.
The pics are not so great it's raining so the shots are from inside my garage.
Enjoy!

Matte Black Kidneys for a 2010?

I tried to order a set of matte black grills for a 2010 535 and was told that the grills would not fit anything beyond a 2008. Is this correct? I'm debating on either matte black or carbon fiber, but other online retailers I've checked don't show their stock as fitting a 2010 either. Any input is appreciated.

Questions about M5 Tech Front Variations

My car has the M5 Tech front replica from Trinity. Its been fantastic. However, I would like to remove my fog lights and the plastic mesh grills inside that brake vent. My question is whether or not there is any difference between the one that comes with fog light option vs. the one without besides the fact that it doesn't have the inserts and mounting bracket on the back?

In other words, if I remove these things from the car, will it look just like the bumper without fogs that comes from the vendor? I just want one black mesh grill in the front mouth, and 2 sexy black slits on each side just like on an M5.

How much trouble?

Can I get into if I use a Euro Plate as an official plate on my trunk? It would still have the same letters, and I would put the expiration/registration tag in the upper right-hand of the corner also...obviously it's illegal...but if the punishment isn't very severe it would be worth it...so what can "they" do if I use a unofficial euro plate?

Thanks

Subs in floor

HI

New to the forum and was just looking for a little bit of help

I have a 2005 520d SE and i was looking to upgrade the subwoofers that are situated under the front seats

i have read a few posts and they all state that the is an amp in the boot on the left hand side

but in my car there is just the long box to the side of where the amp is and no amp

was hoping to get an insight on how to tap the lines for these subs from the aftermarket amp i have installed in the boot

any help would be greatly apreciated

Thanks

Updated LCI style Ebay tail lights?

So I ran across these tail lights that someone posted in the classified section and was thinking, wow these look like an updated version of the ones that redeyejedi tested and setup the group buy for (link below).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-07-BMW-E60-525i-530i-545i-RED-SMOKE-LED-TAIL-LIGHTS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2559380150QQitemZ160410632528QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I went back to redeyejedi's original review thread and compared pictures and from the outside, they look pretty identical. However, a member posted a picture of the back side and this is where they differ significantly from the one in the link I posted. The ebay link also shows the LED bars lighting up without the brake lights lighting up with it behind it. The LED bars also look to be more even and more red and less pink than before (this is probably just photo editing though).

I might call up the seller tomorrow to ask about these to get some definitive answers to my questions above. These look like the Sonar ones that Umnitza sells but cheaper. What do you guys think?
