Can the car's options be set in iDrive, or do any require the dealer to set like they used to?
So far, the only two settings that can not be set in iDrive are (1) Daytime Running Lights off or on, and, (2) Sensitivity of automatic headlights: normal, sensitive, or very sensitive. The meanings of these sensitivity settings are the opposite of what you would expect. For example, if you want to wait longer for your lights to come on automatically at night or turn off earlier as it gets lighter out, then you would use the 'very sensitive' setting. All other settings can be set in iDrive.

where on IDrive do I go to turn off the running day lights?

That's on the head light switch. Read the manual for the settings.
That is incorrect. As stated in the first post, you can't control the DRLs through iDrive. This setting (DRLs on or off) can only be adjusted by the dealer.

In my Idrive I found a setting for vehicle color and License plate. Both have Unknown next to them. How do I get these set?
Thanks.

That needs to be done by BMW Assist.
The colour will appear in "basic" only, so in my case BLUE, not ORIENTBLUE.
Those two are for emergency use only. In case you have an accident and BMW Assist is automatically contacted from the car. If you don't answer, they send rescue teams to your GPS position and let them know what kind of car and which colour to look for, and what license plate...

I have a UK specification E61 which was delivered at the end of May 05 and the DRL's are selectable on/off through iDrive.
