Ok so my wife and I are considering the '08 535i.

Can you guys post any tips on saving the most money going through European Delivery.

In this link, BMW shows a saving of $3460.
http://www.bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/Europe...ery/savings.htm

Model- 2008 535i Sedan

MSRP- $49,400

European Delivery Price- $45,940

Savings- $3,460

What should I be aware of also when talking to the dealer about this.

Thanks in advance.

okay, first thing you do is find a ED friendly dealer. Next, start with ED invoice for the 535i which is @$42,400. US MSRP is $49,400. Add between $1K - $1500 for dealer profit. Any options should be at invoice.

Attached is a pdf which gives a break down in pricing.

Below are wholesale (Invoice) prices
------------------------------------
1. Start with Base Price Euro Munich Pick Up: $42,265
2. Add options (examples): Active Steering ($1230), Sport Auto ($455), Comfort Access ($910), NAV ($1730), HUD ($1010), Premium Pkg ($1910), Sport Pkg ($2550).
3. Total = $52060 + $1500 (dealer profit, this number is negotiable)
4. Grand total = $53560

Then there is the US MSRP prices:
------------------------------------
1. Start with Base Price USA Port of Entry: $49,400
2. Add options (examples): Active Steering ($1400), Sport Auto ($500), Comfort Access ($1000), NAV ($1900), HUD ($1200), Premium Pkg ($2100), Sport Pkg ($2800).
3. Total= $60300 MSRP

Even better is when you lease with BMWFS, the residual used is the US MSRP not Euro MSRP. With ED you come out so far ahead, it's a no brainer.

Thanks VT, your post is very helpful.

I started configuring the car with the available options.

What is the difference between a STEPTRONIC and the Sport Auto?

Also with ED, can we just drop off the car to be shipped out right away as soon as we pick it up? I'm not really interested in driving the car there and was more interested in having a "vacation" more than anything. Are there limitations like having to stay within preset cities/country?

Any recommendations of any ED Friendly dealerships in OC etc?

Thanks.

Ok , just found this link and read through it and got a lot of good info about ED.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index.php?t...ropean_Delivery

I understand that I also need to add the Destination/Handling fee of $775 but how about the "Dealer Preparation" charge of $180?

I'm still looking for some recommendations of ED-friendly dealerships out here in So.Ca.. preferably in OC.

Also can someone post the difference between the STEPTRONIC and the SPORT Auto tranny. Which is better?

Thanks again.

Good find. Yes, Destination Charge is a mandatory fee. Dealer prep, no. And, for your next two questions refer to above.

I just bought a used 545i, and I was always thought leases were a bad idea, but it sounds like if you get ED it would be a great deal! So if you are going to lease the above car for 24 or 36 months what would you payments be? If you save 7 k on the purchase and the residual and the residual is like 60%, wouldn't your payments be super low, like sub 500!? Do you have to pay sales tax on the leased car? ifso that makes it a bit worse....

For some leasing is the way to go. The above lease for a 36 month term would be under $1K/month. For exact numbers use this online lease calculator.

Sorry to hijack this thread.. but I was wondering if you pay off the entire lease amount when you first get the car do you still have to pay a money factor? And what are typical money factors for a 5er?

Money Factor is an essential part of a lease. It' how to derive the APR. Formula: .0025 MF * 2400 = 6% APR. "2400" is a fixed variable.

If you can find a 2007 550i on the dealer lot I would jump on it. Look at the MF:
